In 1958, Pastor Delbert Schroeder founded South Side Baptist Tabernacle (then called Faith Baptist Church) in a 2-car garage located in West Willow Subdivision in Ypsilanti, MI. Under his leadership, the church grew, and a church building was constructed at 2069 Tyler Road. In 1966, Archie Bice stepped in as pastor and served until 1970 when Duane Rutherford took over as pastor. In 1976, the church was able to purchase thirty acres on the corner of Stony Creek and Textile Road for the purpose of hosting our annual camp meeting-Camp Achor. It was, however, the church's prayer and aspiration that the church and camp would exist on the same property. In 1980, Jimmy Walker was voted in as the fourth pastor of South Side Baptist Tabernacle, and during his years of service, God answered prayers and our present church building was constructed on those thirty acres of property. The building was finished in 1996, and in 2003, the building was expanded to facilitate the steady growth of the church. Our current pastor, Christopher Wass, grew up at South Side and served as youth pastor here for 18 years. He became pastor in 2009, and he has remained faithful to the unchanging Word of God in the midst of an ever-changing world.
